Hi, I’m Nikkey. This is where you’ll find my original and limited edition artworks for sale from my 76 Orcas series. Why am I painting so many orcas? Glad you asked - I was raising funds for a microplastic research voyage through their habitat. Now that the voyage has concluded (stay tuned for our findings) partial proceeds from these paintings will be going to the CPAWS Southern Strait of Georgia campaign which calls for protection of the southern resident killer whales habitat and Raincoast Conservation Foundation's campaign to protect their food source.
Our southern resident killer whales (SRKW) are endangered, there are only 76 left across the 3 pods (UPDATE: there are now only 75 since the loss of L92 Crewser). They’ve faced a staggering 50% population decline since 1998. Their many threats include; few food sources, ship traffic/noise pollution and the continued degradation of their environment.
Some scientists are saying this could be the last generation of the SRKW, our time for collective action is now. Beyond supporting the many organizations working to save these whales you can stop eating Chinook salmon (their primary food source), call for the removal of the Snake River dam and reduce your plastic consumption.
